These Terms of Service (“Terms”) govern your access to and use of Folding Monitor, available at folding.vitaltale.com (the “Service”).
The Service is operated by Vitaltale LLC (“Vitaltale”, “we”, “us”, or “our”), a Delaware, United States limited liability company.
By accessing or using the Service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, you must not use the Service.
Folding Monitor is a community-oriented monitoring, ranking, and profile service for Folding@home users, teams, and countries.
The Service may provide features such as:
- Folding@home user rankings;
- Folding@home team rankings;
- country-based leaderboards;
- public user, team, and country pages;
- 24-hour, 7-day, 30-day, and all-time statistics;
- rank movement and activity summaries;
- Folding@home account connection;
- generated forum signature cards;
- links or references to external Folding@home-related resources.
Folding Monitor is an independent service. It is not an official Folding@home service and is not operated, sponsored, endorsed, or controlled by Folding@home, Stanford University, or any related Folding@home project operator.
The Service is not directed to children under 16 years of age.
If you are under 16, you may use the Service only if permitted by applicable law and with appropriate consent from a parent or legal guardian.
By using the Service, you represent that you are legally allowed to use the Service under the laws that apply to you.
If you connect a Folding@home account to the Service, you are responsible for ensuring that:
- the Folding@home user name and passkey you provide are accurate;
- you have the right to connect that Folding@home account;
- you do not connect an account that belongs to another person without authorization;
- your use of the Service does not violate any rules or policies that apply to your Folding@home account or community participation.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of any credentials, passkeys, devices, browsers, or sessions you use in connection with the Service.
The Service may request your Folding@home user name and passkey to verify your Folding@home account connection.
Your Folding@home passkey is used only for verification and account connection purposes. We do not use your passkey to fold on your behalf, control your Folding@home client, access your device, or perform Folding@home activity in your name.
We do not store your passkey in plain text. Where storage is needed for account connection purposes, we store only a hashed or cryptographically protected representation of the passkey.
You remain responsible for your own Folding@home account, client configuration, hardware, passkey, and related security.
Folding Monitor is built around public rankings and community visibility.
You acknowledge that the Service may display, generate, calculate, or publish information such as:
- Folding@home user name;
- Folding@home user ID;
- team name and team ID;
- country setting;
- avatar, profile image, team logo, or related visual elements;
- points, credits, work units, and rankings;
- 24-hour, 7-day, 30-day, and all-time leaderboard positions;
- team and country statistics;
- public profile pages;
- generated forum signature cards.
Some of this information may be based on public Folding@home-related data, Folding@home APIs, user-submitted information, or data calculated by the Service.
If you do not want certain information to be publicly visible, you should not connect, submit, or display that information through the Service.
The Service may allow users to generate image-based user or team signature cards for use on forums, websites, and community pages.
You are responsible for how and where you use these signature cards.
If you embed or share a signature card outside the Service, third parties may view, copy, cache, index, or redistribute that image. We are not responsible for third-party use of signature cards after they are shared outside the Service.
We may modify, suspend, regenerate, or remove signature card functionality at any time.
You agree not to misuse the Service.
You must not:
- access or use the Service for unlawful purposes;
- connect a Folding@home account without authorization;
- attempt to impersonate another user, team, organization, or country;
- submit false, misleading, abusive, or harmful information;
- interfere with, disrupt, or overload the Service;
- scrape, crawl, harvest, or extract data in a way that harms the Service or violates these Terms;
- bypass rate limits, security controls, access controls, or technical restrictions;
- attempt to reverse engineer, probe, scan, or exploit the Service;
- upload malware, malicious code, or harmful files;
- use the Service to spam, harass, defame, threaten, or abuse others;
- use generated images, rankings, or profile data in a misleading or deceptive way;
- use the Service in a way that infringes the rights of Vitaltale, users, or third parties.
We may suspend, restrict, or terminate access to the Service if we believe these Terms have been violated or if necessary to protect the Service, users, infrastructure, or legal rights.
The Service may rely on third-party data sources, public Folding@home-related data, APIs, user submissions, cached data, and internal calculations.
We do not guarantee that any statistics, rankings, credits, work units, user IDs, team IDs, country information, trends, rank changes, or leaderboard data will be complete, accurate, current, or error-free.
Data may be delayed, missing, cached, duplicated, inconsistent, or unavailable due to third-party API changes, network issues, server issues, source data limitations, software errors, or other reasons.
The Service is provided for informational and community purposes only.
Folding Monitor is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or officially connected to Folding@home, Stanford University, or any related Folding@home project operator.
All Folding@home-related names, references, marks, statistics, or data remain the property or responsibility of their respective owners or sources.
Use of Folding@home-related references is for identification, interoperability, community information, and descriptive purposes only.
The Service is not a medical, clinical, scientific, legal, tax, financial, or professional advisory service.
Folding Monitor may refer to Folding@home, distributed computing, research contribution, teams, countries, and community statistics. However, the Service does not provide medical advice, scientific conclusions, treatment guidance, diagnosis, research validation, or professional recommendations.
You should not rely on the Service as a source of medical, scientific, technical, financial, or legal advice.
If the Service allows you to submit, upload, or provide content, such as avatars, logos, country settings, profile information, team information, or other materials, you are responsible for that content.
You represent and warrant that:
- you have the necessary rights to submit and use the content;
- the content does not infringe intellectual property, privacy, publicity, or other rights;
- the content is not unlawful, harmful, misleading, abusive, defamatory, or malicious;
- the content does not contain malware or harmful code.
You grant Vitaltale a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, display, resize, process, generate, transmit, and use submitted content as necessary to operate, display, improve, and promote the Service.
This license ends when the content is deleted from the Service, except where continued use is necessary for backups, logs, legal compliance, security, previously generated public pages, cached materials, or technical integrity.
The Service, including its design, software, interface, layout, visual elements, graphics, generated templates, branding, logos, text, databases, and other materials, is owned by Vitaltale or its licensors, except for third-party materials and user-submitted content.
You may use the Service only as permitted by these Terms.
You must not copy, modify, distribute, sell, lease, sublicense, or create derivative works based on the Service or its protected elements unless we expressly allow it.
The Service may link to, interact with, or display information from third-party services, including Folding@home-related APIs, public data sources, team websites, forums, and other community resources.
We do not control third-party services and are not responsible for their content, availability, accuracy, security, privacy practices, terms, or data handling.
Your use of third-party services is governed by their own terms and policies.
We may modify, update, suspend, discontinue, or remove any part of the Service at any time, including:
- features;
- rankings;
- pages;
- APIs;
- generated images;
- forum signature cards;
- account connection functionality;
- data refresh frequency;
- supported statistics;
- public profile or leaderboard formats.
We are not liable for any modification, suspension, or discontinuation of the Service or any feature.
We aim to operate the Service reliably, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted, secure, error-free, or continuous availability.
The Service may be unavailable or degraded due to maintenance, updates, technical issues, third-party service failures, hosting problems, API changes, network interruptions, abuse prevention, security incidents, or other reasons.
The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Vitaltale disclaims all warranties, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, title, non-infringement, accuracy, availability, reliability, and security.
We do not warrant that:
- the Service will be uninterrupted or error-free;
- data will be accurate, complete, current, or reliable;
- rankings or statistics will match any third-party source;
- generated images or signature cards will always be available;
- defects or errors will be corrected;
- the Service will meet your expectations or requirements.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Vitaltale and its owners, officers, employees, contractors, service providers, and affiliates will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, punitive, or similar damages, including loss of data, loss of goodwill, loss of profits, loss of reputation, loss of business, service interruption, or third-party claims.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Vitaltale’s total liability for any claim arising out of or relating to the Service or these Terms will not exceed one hundred US dollars (US $100) or the amount you paid to use the Service in the twelve months before the claim arose, whichever is greater.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain limitations of liability, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you.
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless Vitaltale and its owners, officers, employees, contractors, service providers, and affiliates from and against any claims, damages, liabilities, losses, costs, and expenses, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of or related to:
- your use or misuse of the Service;
- your violation of these Terms;
- your violation of applicable law;
- your submitted content;
- your unauthorized connection or use of a Folding@home account;
- your misuse of rankings, profile data, or signature cards;
- your infringement of third-party rights.
If the Service allows account connection, you may be able to disconnect your Folding@home account.
We may suspend, restrict, or terminate your access to the Service at any time if:
- you violate these Terms;
- your use creates security, legal, operational, or reputational risk;
- we suspect fraud, abuse, impersonation, or unauthorized access;
- required by law or legal process;
- necessary to protect the Service, users, or third parties.
After disconnection, suspension, or termination, some public or historical data may remain visible where it is based on public Folding@home statistics, cached leaderboard data, generated pages, security logs, backups, or Service integrity requirements.
Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information in connection with the Service.
You should review the Privacy Policy carefully before using or connecting an account to the Service.
We may update these Terms from time to time.
When we make changes, we will update the “Latest update” date at the top of this page. If changes are material, we may provide additional notice where appropriate.
Your continued use of the Service after updated Terms become effective means that you accept the updated Terms.
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, United States, without regard to conflict of law principles.
Where applicable consumer protection laws require a different governing law or forum, those mandatory rights are not limited by these Terms.
Before bringing a formal claim, you agree to contact us and attempt to resolve the issue informally.
If a dispute cannot be resolved informally, the dispute will be handled in the courts or forums permitted under applicable law.
Nothing in these Terms limits your mandatory legal rights where such rights cannot be waived or restricted by contract.
